In March the University advertised for a long term academic lead for VetHub\u00b9 to deliver the commercial legacy for the facility, post the construction phase. I am pleased to announce that Professor Karl Hoffmann has been appointed to this post from 1 July 2020.<\/p>\n

VetHub1 is a key part of the University\u2019s strategy to deliver innovative research in veterinary science. In addition, as a WEFO funded\u00a0project, the facility will aim to develop diagnostic testing, with the objective of boosting the economy of the region and beyond.<\/p>\n

I would like to express my thanks to Professor Luis Mur for all his hard work over the last 18 months leading the\u00a0project, he has laid a solid foundation for\u00a0Karl\u00a0and the team to build on.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, \u00a0Sean Kenny from the Estates department, who has worked on the\u00a0project\u00a0since conception will also be leaving for a new position within the university. I am sure you will join me in wishing him well. Sean\u2019s work with Rob Darby and Jackie Sayce has been invaluable to the\u00a0project\u00a0and his wealth of knowledge has contributed to the (soon to be completed) state-of-the-art suite of laboratories.<\/p>\n

Chris Pirson (chp62@aber.ac.uk<\/a>) will be joining the VetHub1 team as category 3 laboratory manager from 1st August. Chris will be based in the Carwyn James building, in the VetHub1 laboratories.\u00a0 \u00a0Chris is currently a\u00a0Senior Biorisk Advisor & Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor at Immunocore in Hampshire.<\/p>\n

Once the build phase is completed the VetHub1\u00a0project\u00a0will need to move into its implementation phase. That is to say, the team will need to work closely with both\u00a0internal and external\u00a0partners to develop innovative\u00a0projects leading\u00a0to a sustainable and growing\u00a0income stream.<\/p>\n

The university is also investing in new laboratory space adjacent to VetHub1 for the Ser Cymru team, led by Professor Glyn Hewinson.<\/p>\n
